The prisoner was sentenced by the holy Council of the city to be burned at the stake. The warden tells her this terrible news, but the girl cannot allow it. It is beneath her dignity to give a bloodthirsty crowd the pleasure of seeing her painful death. She would like to take her own life, and the keys to her cell sticking out of the warden's pocket came in handy. She leaves the cell, finds a sool and a rope, and decides to hang herself.
